Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio, has asked the President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, to support the 8th National Assembly in reducing the enormous powers the Federal Government wields by devolving some of the powers to the state governments. Akpabio, who claimed that Nigeria was operating a unitary state because of the enormous powers of the Federal Government, stated this during a Channels TV programme titled, View from the Top , on Monday. The outgoing governor also identified complacency as the reason why his party – Peoples Democratic Party – failed at the last general elections, adding that the party realised too late that the All Progressives Congress had captured the South-West. The PDP Governors Forum Chairman said it was unfortunate that state governors had to seek the permission of the Federal Government before approaching the bond market for loans to undertake capital projects even though their states have the capabilities to pay back.

President Goodluck Jonathan has told the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that he plans to take a short break outside the country with his family to rest and recuperate. The president is likely to take this break shortly after handing over power to the incoming administration of Mohammadu Buhari on May 29. According to Vanguard, Jonathan revealed this at a closed door meeting with the leadership of the party at the Presidential Villa on Wednesday, May 13. Parents in California, are angry after they learned that a professor required female students to perform in the unclad before passing their final exam. However, officials from UC San Diego, defended the art teacher who told his students to do their final exam in the unclad.  The mother of one student said that professor Ricardo Dominguez forced her daughter to undress or she risk failing the class. DICKSON, Tennessee  – A Tennessee death row inmate has been released from prison today after two attempts to execute him have failed. Peter Farmington was convicted of 3 counts of murder in the first degree when he pled guilty to murdering his wife and their two young children in March of 2006. The prison warden, Joseph Goldsmith, called Farmington’s survival “a divine intervention.” “We have two methods of execution in the state of Tennessee.” said Goldsmith. “It is has always been our tradition to let the inmate choose how they want to go.
